With their decades of experience in manufacturing tool cases, B&W has created the ideal hard sided pannier. This case easily snaps on and off of any standard rear rack. The lid is hinged and can be locked with a simple key. Inside the case there is a removable, washable, nylon-covered foam liner, which will protect your delicate cameras or electronic equipment. The rubberized carry handle lays flat when not in use and is comfortable even when fully loaded. The mounting mechanism has a spring-loaded latch that will fit over both thin and thicker (1cm) tubular racks. The bottom 'butterfly' attachment point is rotated to lock down tightly against the racks lower tubes. The case is ambidextrous and can be mounted on either side. If you are going to be doing extended touring, it is best to load your bike equally on both sides, to help keep it balanced. There is a comfortable carry handle once the case is removed, but no shoulder strap or additional mounting points for such a strap. By virtue of the cases interlocking aluminum edge profile, it remains water tight, even in a torrential downpour. There is no need for an extra rain cover. The case is not meant to be submersed and doesn't have a rubber seal to keep out pressurized water. The outside of the case is also protected by a rubber bumper strip that encircles both the lid and case. Commuters can use this case to carry their laptops, cameras, clothes, lunch, picnic supplies. My 12" Apple PowerBook fits easily along one side of this box. Larger laptops will probably have to be fit across the diagonal inside the box, which measures 12.5" (32cm). We sell safety reflectors for this case separately. These are polyester tapes with 3M reflective material that can be cut and stuck on various spots around the case.
